This is Cullercoats, once a small but identifiable community, now sadly just part of the ribbon of development reaching north up the coast from the river Tyne. That’s not to say it has nothing to offer – it has: There a two lovely beaches, the small one within the harbour walls, and the Tynemouth Longsands to the south, and if you don’t mind a 5 minute walk, there’s also Whitley Bay to the north, so it’s a great place for kids in the summer. There are places to eat, places to drink and also places to stay if you like what you see. There are places to have your car fixed or your hair done. We have a Butchers, a Bakers, but no candle-stick makers. From the cliff above the harbour, there is a dramatic view south of the remains of Tynemouth Priory and Battery, and if you fancy seeing inside the Priory, it’s about a 15 minute amble down the road which runs just above the beach all the way. Tynemouth itself is also worth a visit. Cullercoats has a Metro station 2 minutes walk from the sea-front, and it takes about 30 minutes from Newcastle, depending on which train you get. There are also regular Bus Services through the village, and easy access by road. The North-Tyneside General Hospital is about 5 minutes journey by car, and has an A & E dept. Whitley Bay Health Centre is a ten-minute walk along Whitley Road, should you require a doctor. There are a few websites dedicated to Cullercoats, so I’m not going to duplicate information here. What I have done is listed here the local businesses in Cullercoats to provide information for would-be visitors to the region. |
